Kilmarnock care worker who restrained colleague and kissed her while on shift struck off

A care worker who made repeated sexual advances towards a colleague, including restraining and kissing her, has been struck off.

Alexander McIlroy was convicted of sexual assault and behaving in a threatening manner at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on October 3, 2025.

McIlroy was found to have grabbed the woman, referred to as AA, kissed her on the lips and repeatedly tried to kiss and cuddle her.

He was also found to have repeatedly uttered sexual remarks at her, continuously approached her and attempted to stop her from leaving.

McIlroy’s conduct occurred over the span of a single shift while employed in Kilmarnock in March 2025.

Following his conviction, the Scottish Social Services Council launched a probe into McIlroy’s conduct.

An SSSC report stated: “The nature of these offences raises significant concerns about your ability to conduct yourself appropriately in the workplace.

“Your actions demonstrate a disregard for the personal dignity, boundaries, and emotional safety of AA.

“As a result, there is an identified risk that similar behaviour could be repeated in the future. This presents a public protection concern that must be addressed.”

It was also made clear in the report that McIlroy’s behaviour was “fundamentally incompatible” with the standards expected for care professionals.

The SSSC were concerned that McIlroy’s behaviour was persistent despite being asked to stop and that he had not cooperated with the investigation.

The watchdog concluded McIlroy’s fitness to practice was impaired due to serious sexual misconduct, and he was struck from the register.
