'Lew-ice Ca-plough-di': Schoolboy names new gritter after pop-star

One of Scotland’s newest gritter truck has named after one of the country’s most loved celebrities.

Primary school pupils in East Dunbartonshire were tasked with naming the four new vehicles that will take to the roads this winter.

Primary seven pupil Daniel, from Holy Family in Lenzie, was successful in naming one of the gritters Lew-Ice Ca-plough-di after Someone You Love singer Lewis Capaldi.

Among the other winners were Jackson and AJ, who are in primary four and five respectively at Thomas Muir in Bishopbriggs, who named trucks the Mugdock Melter and Beast from the East (Dunbartonshire).

Millie, a primary six pupil at Gartconner in Kirkintilloch, and Lewis, a primary six pupil at Balmuildy in Bishopbriggs, both came up with the name Ctrl + Alt + De-ice.

Councillor Paul Ferretti, Convener of the Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets committee, said, “An appeal was put out to the primary school children of East Dunbartonshire to come up with memorable names to mark the expansion of the gritting fleet, and the children absolutely delivered.

“With so many clever and witty submissions, the judging process was a tough but enjoyable process, and we have got four crackers in time for Christmas.”
