A murder investigation has been launched after a dad was shot and killed in his home in North Lanarkshire.

Emergency services were called to Shields Court, Motherwell, where a body was discovered in a flat on Monday.

Detectives have identified the victim as Jordan Gray. The 26-year-old is believed to have died between Sunday night and the early hours of Monday morning.

Police Scotland has confirmed that the dad was fatally shot with a gun in what is believed to be a targeted attack.

His dad, John Lindsay, said: “Jordan was a loving and doting father and son. Please if anyone has any information, however large or small, contact police.”

Mum, Lynn Gray, and Michael Groome added: “We as a family are devastated at the loss of Jordan. We would appreciate some privacy and time to grieve. If anyone has any information please come forward.”

Detective Superintendent Grant Hendry from the Major Investigation Team has confirmed officers are searching for an individual who was  wearing a dark jacket with the hood up and dark trousers.

He said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing and we have a dedicated team of specialist officers working through all lines of enquiry.

“I’d like to thank the community for their support and information so far. It may be that details of who is responsible for Jordan’s death are known in the local area, and I appeal directly to anyone who knows or has heard something, to report it to us.

“We continue to ask for information on a person seen in the Shields Court area around 10.35pm on Sunday night. They were wearing a dark jacket with the hood up and dark trousers. Anyone with information on this person is urged to contact the investigation team.”

An online portal has been set up to encourage members of the public to submit information directly to officers and can be accessed here.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111. Police can also be called on 101 quoting reference 2147 of Monday, December 15.

Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Steven Conn, said: “Incidents like this in our community are shocking but rare. With the assistance of the Major Investigation Team, we’re doing all we can to get answers for Jordan’s family.

“We have, and will continue to have, an increased police presence in the area for public reassurance. If you have concerns, please speak to our officers.”
