M8 disruption after van bursts into flames as drivers face long delays

Drivers are facing long delays on the M8 after a van burst into flames.

Traffic Scotland confirmed the motorway is restricted eastbound between junctions five and six between Newhouse and Kirk of Shotts due to a vehicle fire.

Images shared on X showed a white van on the hard shoulder having burst into flames, with lane one of the motorway closed.

The incident was reported around 9.38am on Friday, with large tailbacks pictured on the road.

Emergency services are said to be on the scene.

Drivers are facing delays of up to 26 minutes and are being asked to use alternative routes if possible.
