The M8 has been reopened after armed police shut the road to search for a “man with a weapon” near Eurocentral.
Specialist officers were called to the motorway near Junction 6 at around 8.55am on Monday following reports of a man who appeared to be carrying a weapon on the eastbound carriageway.
The M8 was closed eastbound at Newhouse and Chapelhall. The slip road on the A8 eastbound at Eurocentral was also closed.
Police Scotland said extensive enquiries were ongoing.
Traffic Scotland confirmed the road had been reopened at around 4.30pm on Monday.
The current status of the police search has not been confirmed.
Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
Previously the force said: “Police are in attendance and a search of the area is being carried out.
“Specialist officers are also in attendance, as a precaution, and extensive inquiries are ongoing.”
“The M8 is closed at Junction 6 eastbound for Newhouse and Chapelhall and motorists are advised to avoid the area while investigations are carried out.”
