Drivers are being warned to expect significant overnight disruption on the M8 in Glasgow as essential maintenance gets underway between junctions 18 and 16.

The works, carried out by Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland, will run from Sunday, November 16, 2025, until January 23, 2026, with nightly closures from 10pm to 6am.

To accommodate the festive period, the project will pause on Friday, December 19, and resume on Sunday, January 4.

The closures are required to support the next phase of work on the M8 Woodside Viaducts between junctions 16 and 17.

A signed diversion route will be in place. Eastbound traffic will leave the M8 at junction 18/17 (St George’s Road), follow the northbound route before travelling south on the A81 Garscube Road, then continue to the A804 Dobbies Loan and rejoin the motorway at junction 16 Craighall.

Transport Scotland has confirmed that access for emergency service vehicles will not be maintained during the closures.

Drivers are urged to plan ahead, allow extra time, and follow all diversion signage—particularly within the city’s Low Emission Zone (LEZ), where vehicles straying from the approved diversion may face penalty charges.

The timing of the works has been coordinated to minimise disruption to bus services. All planned works remain weather dependent and may be rescheduled if necessary.

Real-time travel updates are available at Traffic Scotland, and road users can also sign up for free roadwork alerts via the SW Trunk Roads website.
