An M8 slip road is to close for essential repairs after “stinking” sewage from a burst pipe flooded a section of the motorway.
Lane two of the westbound carriageway on-slip at Junction 25A, Braehead Interchange, was shut from 8.30am on Friday after a sewer main burst, spilling sewage onto the road.
Shoppers at Braehead described a “stinking” smell in the area following the incident.
Scottish Water operatives were on the scene to clean up the contaminated water and the lane reopened on Saturday, but a single-lane closure will now be implemented to allow for essential repairs.
From 10pm on Hogmanay, work will be carried out on the slip-road to ensure the safety of road users and workers.
The operation will transition from overnight to daytime working as Scottish Water work in liaison with Amey Highways.
The lane closure will remain in place for the duration of the repairs.
Onsite preparation works are currently progressing to allow the emergency repairs to be carried out.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “We appreciate the ongoing patience and understanding of road users as we continue these essential repairs.
“The single-lane closure will allow us to maintain a safe working environment for our team on site while minimising the overall disruption to traffic.”
