A 24-year-old man has died in a crash on a motorway in South Lanarkshire on Friday morning.

Police were called to the single-car incident involving a silver Mazda 2 on the M74 near Abington at 5am on July 10.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the road was closed for six hours for investigations.

Sergeant Ross Allison said: “We are carrying out a number of inquiries to establish the full circumstances of this crash and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened to contact police.

“In addition, anyone with dashcam footage is asked to get in touch.”
