A man has appeared in court charged with setting a van full of fireworks ablaze on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to Braes Avenue in Clydebank at around 1am following reports of a vehicle fire.

Nearby buildings were evacuated while firefighters directed hoses onto a flat building to stop it from catching fire.

One resident told STV News that the scene was like a “warzone”.

Connor Steele appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Wednesday charged with wilful fire-raising.

The 29-year-old made no plea and was remanded in custody.

He is due to appear at court again within the next eight days.
