A 70-year-old man has died in a car crash that closed a road in South Lanarkshire for over three hours.

Officers were alerted to the incident that happened on the A70, Ayr Road in Douglas near the junction with Covenanters Way at around 3.05pm on Sunday.

The crash involved a grey Ford Puma.

Emergency services attended the scene and the 70-year-old male driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for around three hours and 25 minutes.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

Road Policing sergeant Jim Dewar said: “Our thoughts are with the family and the friends of the man who died at this difficult time.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the car prior to the crash to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was driving in the area around that time and who may have dash cam footage which could assists to get in touch.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 2002 of November 10, 2024.
