A pensioner is to stand trial charged with the murder of his wife.

Kenneth Davies, 72, is accused of attacking Christine Davies at a property near to Ayr Racecourse on March 2 last year.

Prosecutors claim he struggled with the 68-year-old, repeatedly pushed her on the body and grabbed her by the neck.

Davies faces a separate charge of assaulting a police officer at the house on the same date.

The case called for a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

Shelagh McCall, defending, pleaded not guilty on behalf of Davies.

He is currently believed to have mobility issues.

A trial was fixed and is scheduled to begin in November 2026 in Kilmarnock.

The case could last around seven days.

Ms McCall said: “I am told this court can facilitate wheelchair access.”

Davies, of Ayr, remains on bail meantime.
