A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a retired primary school worker in Glasgow.
Emergency services were called to the house on Newfield Square in Nitshill at around 9.45pm on Saturday.
Margaret McGowan, 71, was found seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene.
Amanda Clubley, the headteacher of Gowanbank Primary School, where Ms McGowan worked before retiring, paid tribute following the news of her death.
“Our school community is devastated to hear the tragic news about Margaret who was one in a million,” she said.
Ms Clubley added that although Ms McGowan retired a few years ago, she visited the school frequently.
“Even though Margaret retired a few years ago from Gowanbank, she was still a frequent visitor and walked her dog past the playground each day and always greeted the children and staff with a cheery hello,” she said.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with Margaret’s family and friends at this sad time.”
Officers confirmed a 78-year-old man has been charged in connection with her death.
Ian McGowan appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday charged with murder.
The 78-year-old, from Glasgow, made no plea and was committed for further examination.
He was remanded in custody and is due to appear again within the next eight days.
