A man alleged to have resisted arrest at a mass protest outside an immigration van has been found not guilty.
Kairos Pakleppa, 34, was said to have committed the offence on Kenmure Street in Glasgow’s Pollokshields on May 13, 2021.
An officer claimed Pakleppa tried to get under a car that was to be uplifted which was parked ten metres from the immigration van.
He added that Pakleppa then attempted to get past him and colleagues before resisting arrest.
The witness stated Pakleppa made efforts to drop to the ground and made his legs go soft.
Pakleppa pled not guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
He also denied a charge of resisting, obstructing or hindering police officers in the execution of her duty.
Sheriff Mark McGuire acquitted Pakleppa, of London, of the two charges after an eight day trial.
Speaking after the verdict, defence lawyer Erin Monaghan said: “The Sheriff commented that much of what was said in evidence – by these officers – did not occur.
“The inconsistences only became apparent – with reference to various clips of footage, that had been provided by members of the public and used by the defence at trial. No reasonable explanation was provided to account for these differences.
“The court found that the Crown witnesses were not credible or reliable and acquitted our client of both charges.”
