Police ScotlandA man accused of murdering his partner has told a judge he is yet to find a lawyer to defend him at his trial next year.
Alexander Brennan is accused of killing Brodie MacGregor, 23, at her flat in Glasgow’s Springburn last August 26.
A trial for May 2026 was set at a hearing in June this year.
Brennan had no legal representation at that time after he withdrew instructions to his then lawyers.
This case was adjourned until August 20.
Brennan was back in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow where he was once again representing himself.
In exchanges with Lord Renucci, he stated: “I have tried to get a lawyer – I honestly have. This is my life we are talking about.”
The judge eventually adjourned until October for Brennan to finally secure a new legal team.
STV NewsLord Renucci said: “Can I suggest that you try harder and if you do not get a response from one lawyer, perhaps contact a few.
“If you come back and say that you still cannot get a lawyer, I think the court may find that difficult to understand.
“Spend as much time as possible instructing new lawyers to start preparing your case.
“This trial will go ahead and it is in your interests. This is not going away.”
Prosecutors claim Brennan punched and slapped Ms MacGregor.
The murder charges goes on to state Brennan also repeatedly struck the young mum on the face, head and body with glass bottles, some of which were broken, as well as hitting her with a microwave plate.
Brennan, of Stenhousemuir, Stirlingshire, is further said to have inflicted blunt force trauma injuries by means unknown.
He also faces a charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
This features an accusation that he got rid of bloodstained jeans in a clothing collection bin, also in Springburn.
It is claimed Brennan did this in a bid to “conceal evidence” and “avoid arrest” for the crime.
He is separately accused of assaulting Ms MacGregor before the alleged killing.
The trial, when it begins, is expected to last around ten days.
