A man is fighting for his life after being airlifted to hospital following a crash on Isle of Islay.

Officers were called to the scene of the crash that happened on the A846 South of Bowmore at around 8.25am on Tuesday.

The crash involved a Volkswagan Transporter van and a BMW GS motorbike.

The motorcyclist, a 28-year-old man, was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where his condition is described as “critical”.

Police said the 68-year-old male driver was taken to Bowmore Hospital for treatment and later released.

The road was closed for around eight hours to allow for enquiries to be carried out.

The force is now urging anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward.

Sergeant Bob Mackie said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time or who witnessed the crash or the vehicles involved to get in touch.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 0629 of October 29, 2024.”
