Two police officers suffered minor injuries in an attack after stopping a car in North Lanarkshire.

Around 1pm on Friday afternoon, officers stopped the vehicle on Sikeside Street in Coatbridge.

Two officers were attacked and suffered minor injuries. They did not require hospital treatment.

A man, aged 21, and a woman, aged 22, were arrested and charged in connection with police assault and disorder offences.

The pair are due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Monday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1pm on Friday, September 13, 2024, officers stopped a car on Sikeside Street, Coatbridge.

“A 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested and charged in connection with police assault and disorder offences. They are due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Monday, September 16, 2024.

“Two officers suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.”
