Man and woman charged with human trafficking in Glasgow amid retail crime crackdown

Two more people have been charged with human trafficking offences amid a crackdown on retail crime in the west of Scotland.

Officers have been gathering information over the last few months as part of Operation Dynos, which focuses on gangs that recruit and coerce youths to become involved with large-scale retail theft.

Following enquiries, detectives believe that vulnerable young people are being targeted to steal alcohol from stores across the region.

On Thursday, officers arrested and charged a 62-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman in connection with human trafficking in the Glasgow area.

They are due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday.

Constable Paul Steell said: “We remain committed to tackling retail crime, while continuing to safeguard young people from harm and coercion into criminal behaviour.

“We will continue to gather evidence and use all resources at our disposal to tackle this type of crime.”

The arrests take the number of adults arrested in connection with the criminal exploitation of children and young people, as part of Operation Dynos, up to nine, since the start of the Operation in April 2025.
