A man has appeared in court for a second time, charged with the murder of an 82-year-old grandmother in Glasgow.

Emergency services were called to a report of a woman injured in Cardowan Road in the Carntyne area of the city around 4am on April 18.

Elizabeth Colligan, known as Betty, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers arrested a 30-year-old man, who STV News understands to be her grandson, Grant McKinnon, in connection with the death.

McKinnon has also been charged with a charge against the Communications Act.

McKinnon made no plea at a hearing last week at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

He was back in the dock again on Thursday at another private hearing where he was fully committed.

McKinnon was represented by his lawyer, Phillip Lafferty.

McKinnon had his remand in custody continued by Sheriff Michael Hanlon.

His next court date is to be determined.

Tributes were paid to Ms Colligan online after her death.

Her niece, Yvonne Campbell, wrote: “Rest in peace aunty Betty you will never be forgotten, only one left from my wee ma’s side.

“Hope you are up there at peace with your sister, my wee ma. Love you forever aunty Betty, my wee aunty”.

Charelle McCarvill added: “I still can’t believe this, she was such a lovely woman, I saw her almost every day when she was shopping at Pets at Home.”
