Man arrested and street cordoned off after police called to homeless hostel

Three fire engines and high-reach appliance were sent to the scene on Cowgate where a man was arrested.

A man has been arrested following a major emergency response at a homeless hostel in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called to Cunningham House on Blair Street at around 2.05pm on Wednesday following a report of a concern for a person.

Three fire engines and a high-reach were sent to the scene, where a 40-year-old man was arrested.

No injuries were reported, and investigations are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.05pm on Wednesday, November 12, we received a report of concern for a person on Cowgate in Edinburgh.

“Emergency services attended.

“A 40-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We attended, alongside emergency service partners, an incident at Cunningham House in Blair Street, Cowgate in Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and a high reach appliance to the scene after the alarm was raised at 2.19pm on Wednesday, November 12.

“There were no casualties, and crews left the scene around 3.06pm after ensuring the area was made safe.”
