A man has been arrested following a hit-and-run in Paisley town centre which left two people in hospital.

Emergency services, including police and ambulance, were called to Lawn Street just after 9am on Saturday following reports of a collision.

A 74-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman were taken to hospital for treatment.

According to police, the driver of the car, left the scene but was later traced.

The 22-year-old was arrested and enquiries remain ongoing.

A police spokesperson said: “Around 9.10am on Saturday, September 19, we were called to a report of a hit and run crash on Lawn Street in Paisley.

“Emergency services attended and a 74-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman were taken to hospital for treatment.

“The 22-year-old male driver of the car, which left the scene, was traced by police a short time later, and he was arrested in connection. Enquiries are ongoing.”
