SNS GroupA man was caught with a imitation handgun outside of a nightclub in Glasgow.
Jack McGill, 22, was snared with the weapon near Firewater in Glasgow city centre’s Sauchiehall Street on October 12, 2024.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that McGill was stood beside a group of people being detained outside the club.
Prosecutor Ryan Diamond said: “Officers told McGill to remove his hand from his waistband as they feared he had a knife.
“Officers took hold of McGill and he shouted and swore then arrested him for disorderly conduct.
“A search of his jacket pocket found an imitation firearm.”
McGill was put into a police vehicle where he became abusive and called an officer a “f***ing m****.”
McGill, of the city’s Barmulloch, pleaded guilty to having an imitation firearm in a public place.
He also admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
It was agreed by McGill who represented himself at sentencing, that the weapon was made to look like an M1911 semi-automatic handgun.
Sheriff Mark McGuire asked him: “Do you accept at 2am it might not be obvious to someone that this looks like the real thing?”
McGill replied: “Yes.”
The hearing was told that McGill stated to a social worker that he bought the handgun from England “to play about with.”
He claimed he had it on him that night to “keep it out of reach of his son and his partner’s brother.”
Sheriff McGuire tagged McGill for 120 days keeping him indoors between 8.30pm and 5.30am.
