A man has been charged after £500,000 of cannabis was found inside a van in South Lanarkshire.

Acting on intelligence, officers stopped a Ford Transit van on the M74 northbound, near Lesmahagow, around 5.45pm on Thursday.

Around 90kg of herbal cannabis, estimated to cost half a million pounds, was found inside the van by officers searching.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the seizure and appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Friday.

Police said a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
