Man charged after police officer 'attacked on street'

The 24-year-old approached the officers in the Sycamore Avenue area of Johnstone at around 3pm on Wednesday.

A man has been charged after a police officer was allegedly attacked on a street in Renfrewshire.

Officers in the Sycamore Avenue area of Johnstone were approached by a 24-year-old man acting in a threatening and abusive manner at around 3pm on Wednesday.

One officer was assaulted and the man was charged in connection. The officer was checked over at hospital and discharged.

The alleged attacker was due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3pm on Wednesday, January 14, officers were approached by a man in the Sycamore Avenue area of Johnstone who was acting in an abusive and threatening manner.

“The 24-year-old man assaulted a police officer and was arrested and charged in connection. He was due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday, January 15, 2026.”
