Man charged in connection with attempted murder of female police officer

A man has been charged in connection with the attempted murder of a police officer.

The incident occurred after officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Bannerman Place, Clydebank, at around 9pm on January 5.

A female police officer was struck by the vehicle as it fled the scene. She was transported to hospital for treatment and later discharged.

The 27-year-old male driver of the vehicle was traced, arrested and charged on Friday. He is set to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday.

A Police Scotland statement read: “A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the attempted murder of a police officer in Clydebank.

“Around 9pm on Sunday, January 5, 2025, officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Bannerman Place, Clydebank. A female officer was struck by the vehicle as it made off.

“She was taken to hospital for treatment and later released. The 27-year-old male driver of the vehicle was traced, arrested and charged on Friday, February 7, 2025.

“He is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday, February 10, 2025.”
