A man has been charged with attempted murder after a number of North Lanarkshire homes were evacuated due to a gas leak.
The A80 was closed at its junction with Cumbernauld Road and Knowe Road in Chryston on Tuesday, following reports of a gas leak. Several properties were evacuated as a precaution
SGN engineers confirmed that a gas service pipe had been damaged by fire.
Officers have charged a 29-year-old man in connection with the incident. He is due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Thursday.
The A80 has since reopened following the gas leak.
Chief inspector Gareth Brown said: “Thanks to all the residents and motorists for their patience whilst we dealt with this incident.”
