A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of an 82-year-old grandmother in Glasgow.

Emergency services were called around 4am on Saturday to a report of a woman injured in Cardowan Road in the Carntyne area of the city.

Elizabeth Colligan, known as Betty, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers arrested a 30-year-old man, who STV News understands to be her grandson, Grant McKinnon, in connection with the death.

McKinnon appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday charged with murder and sending a grossly offensive, obscene or menacing message.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody to appear again court in the next eight days.
