A 45-year-old man has been convicted of serious sexual and violent offences against women. 

William Byrne, 45, pleaded guilty to the offences including rape, assault to injury and permanent disfigurement at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday, September 11 2025. 

The offences took place between April 2018 and April 2024 in Ayrshire. 

Detectives began an investigation into Byrne in April, 2024 and he was arrested in July 2024. 

He is due to be sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday, October 9, 2025. 

Detective Sergeant Christine Cowan said: “Byrne is an abusive individual who is now being held to account for his despicable actions. 

“This outcome is thanks to the two victims who came forward to police. Our thoughts remain with them, and I hope this conviction provides them some closure and allows them to move forward. 

“I hope this conviction also gives confidence to others who may have experienced anything similar to come forward, safe in the knowledge that we will thoroughly investigate. 

“I would like to reassure anyone who comes forward that you will be listened to and supported throughout.
