A man has died after being hit by a lorry on the M8 in Glasgow.

Emergency services were alerted to a crash involving a pedestrian and a white Volvo HGV at around 12.40pm on Thursday.

The incident happened between Shotts Interchange, Junction 5, and Newhouse Junction, Junction 6.

Officers said the male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and his family is aware.

The road was reopened at 8pm.

Police said enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “The M8 has reopened in both directions following a crash involving a pedestrian and a white Volvo HGV between J5 and J6, around 12.40pm on Thursday, 28 August, 2025.

“Emergency services attended, however the man died at the scene. His family is aware.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
