A man died after a crash closed the A75 west of Dumfries for over eight hours.

The collision occurred at around 12.50pm on Friday, at the Glen and involved a BMW X5.

Emergency services attended, and the 54-year-old male driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The A75 was closed for several hours while investigations were carried out and reopened around 9pm.

Sergeant Colin Ramage said officers’ thoughts remain with the man’s family and friends, adding that enquiries into the crash are ongoing.

He said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who died at this extremely difficult time, and our enquiries into the crash are ongoing.

“I am appealing to anyone who was driving in the area at the time and who may have seen what happened to please contact officers.

“I’d also ask that anyone with dash-cam footage review this and see if it has captured anything of significance that could assist with our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1526 of 16 January, 2026.
