Man dies and flats evacuated amid ‘noxious substance’ fears

Police said a body was discovered at an address in Govanhill Street, Glasgow.

A man has died and a number of flats evacuated in Glasgow’s South Side over “the possible presence of a noxious substance”.

Police confirmed a body was discovered in Govanhill Street, Glasgow, around 9am on Wednesday, with a post-mortem due to be carried out to determine the exact cause.

However, officers evacuated a number of flats “as a precaution over the potential presence of a noxious substance”.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 9am on Wednesday, February 12, the body of a man was discovered at an address in Govanhill Street, Glasgow.

“A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the exact cause of death which police are currently treating as unexplained.

“Police and other emergency services remain in attendance.

“A number of flats have been evacuated as a precaution due to the possible presence of a noxious substance.”
