A man has died at the scene of a single-car crash in North Ayrshire with a major road closed for four hours.

Police responded to a crash involving one car on Kilwinning Road in Irvine around 8.30pm on Sunday.

The driver, a 59-year-old man, who was the only occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed and reopened around 12.25am on Monday, February 10.

February 9A Police Scotland statement read: “Around 8.30pm on Sunday, 9 February, 2025, officers were made aware of a crash involving one car on Kilwinning Road, Irvine.

“The driver and only occupant of the car, a 59-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The road was closed and reopened around 12.25am on Monday, February 10, 2025.”

Sergeant Brian Simpson of Ayrshire Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died.”
