A 76-year-old woman remains in a serious condition in hospital following the crash on the A77 near Monkton.

A man has died in hospital and a woman remains in a serious condition after a Mercedes was involved in a crash near a roundabout in South Ayrshire.

Emergency services were called to the A77 half a mile south of the Dutch House Roundabout near Monkton, at around 2.25pm on Thursday, October 3, after a silver Mercedes A200 and a red Renault Captur collided.

A 78-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman, the driver and passenger of the Mercedes, were taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries.

The man was pronounced dead in hospital on Sunday.

A police statement confirmed that the woman remains in a serious condition.

Sergeant Martin Cunningham, of Irvine Road Policing, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this very difficult time.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are appealing to anyone who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch if you can assist.

“If you were driving in the area and have dash-cam footage that could help with our investigation then please contact us.”
