A man has been taken to hospital after he “lost control” of his car and crashed into a fence in Airdrie.

Police received a report of a one-vehicle crash on Whinhill Road in the town at around 7.10am on Monday.

Officers believe the collision occurred between 1.15am and 6am that morning.

Police said the car, a Toyota Urban Cruiser, was travelling on Whinhall Road towards the Coatbridge area when it appeared to lose control, left the road, and crashed into a fence.

The 63-year-old male driver was taken to hospital. His condition is currently unknown.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Sergeant Elaine Scott said: “I am appealing for anyone with information to contact us. I would ask any road users, particularly those with dashcam, who were driving on Whinhall Road and the surrounding area on Monday morning to contact us with any information. It’s vital we establish the full circumstances of what has happened.”
