A man caught with almost £400,000 of dirty money and drugs he was keeping for a crime mob has been jailed for three years and eight months.

John Robertson, 35, was held after the raid at his home in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, on May 28 last year.

Police had swooped as part of the Operation Flier probe into large-scale drug smuggling.

On Wednesday, Robertson was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow.

He had previously pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine. The offence was aggravated by a connection to serious organised crime.

Prosecutor Kath Harper told a hearing in August how Robertson was found with £389,850 of cash and up to £7000 of cocaine. There was also a counting machine and scales.

Ms Harper added: “He has been used to hold their (the organised crime group) cash until the money needed to be moved on.

“He has no assets and appears to have fallen on hard times having separated from his partner and returned to live with his parents.”

Lord Burns told Robertson that the jail-term would have been five and a half years, but for the guilty plea.

He added: “By giving them (the crime group) a home for illicit funds, this allowed them to remain beyond the reach of the authorities.”
