A man who was jailed for raping and sexually abusing two “vulnerable” girls has died in prison.

Harry Canning was convicted of attacks carried out in Fife and Perth between 2010 and 2017.

He targeted the girls prior to them becoming teenagers and then continued his “prolonged sexual abuse” until they were both young adults.

Canning was jailed for nine years following a trial at the High Court in Livingston in October 2021.

He died whilst serving prison time at HMP Low Moss on September 28 aged 84.

A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be carried out.
