A man who left a string of dangerous weapons around a city centre and was caught with indecent images of children has been jailed for 16 months.

Kevin Saeed, 41, got rid of pellet guns and samurai swords in Glasgow between July 14 and 19 last year.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that Saeed was spotted on CCTV walking near the city’s Royal Concert Hall.

Prosecutor Victoria Keel said: “He deposited a pellet gun there before walking down Buchanan Street out of sight.

“A member of the public saw a second pellet gun, five knives and their cases lying on a bench on Buchanan Street.”

Some time later, further members of the public spotted the first pellet gun on the stairs to the Royal Concert Hall.

A witness, believing it was a real gun, contacted the police, whose officers attended and confirmed it to be an air pistol.

Five days later, Saeed dialled 999 and told the call handler that he was outside Marks and Spencer and had a “large cache of weapons”.

He then stated: “Come and get them.”

Saaed contacted the police again a short time later to collect the weapons that were left on a bench outside Marks and Spencer.

Ms Keel said: “Officers immediately attended and recovered a Samurai sword, a rusted metal sword and three knives in sheaths from the bench.”

Saeed was seen with a navy blue backpack to watch over the police officers during the discovery.

He called 999 again to “thank” the officers for taking the weapons “out of my hands”.

A short time later, Saeed was spotted placing a black-handled Samurai sword on a makeshift homeless shelter outside of McDonald’s Bakery on Argyle Street.

Officers attended to recover the weapon, and Saeed fled the scene.

He then returned without his backpack and was arrested.

A mobile phone was recovered, which was analysed and found to contain child pornography.

A total of 320 still and moving images were found.

Saeed’s home was raided, and the navy rucksack as well as an air rifle were recovered from his bedroom cupboard.

Ms Keel added: “The pellet guns and air rifle in this case were forensically examined.

“All were found to be in working order and capable of discharging air pellets.”

Saeed pled guilty to possession and distribution of indecent images of children as well as taking or permitting to be taking indecent images of children.

He also admitted having eight knives, two samurai swords, an air pistol in a public place and an air rifle without a certificate.
