A man has been left with a “significant head wound” after he was struck with a glass bottle in an “unprovoked attack” in Kilmarnock.

The 34-year-old was seriously assaulted on Old Street at around 9.55pm on Saturday.

He attended University Hospital Crosshouse for treatment and received multiple stitches.

The suspect is described as a white male, aged 16-22 years, around 5ft 8, thin build, with red hair, wearing a grey tracksuit and a white baseball cap. He was seen on Low Glencairn Street riding a white coloured bicycle prior to the assault taking place on Old Street.

Detective Constable Lee Duncan said: “This was an unprovoked attack which has left the victim with a significant head wound requiring multiple stitches.

“We know that Low Glencairn Street was particularly busy when the suspect was seen riding his bicycle and I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen him either before, during or after the assault took place.

“Anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage could have captured the suspect or assault and if so, I ask that they contact police immediately.”
