A man who groped and attempted to kiss a grandmother in her own home has been handed 150 hours of unpaid work.

Stuart Milligan, 67, preyed upon the 60-year-old at the property in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, on August 29 last year.

Milligan was found guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court of sexual assault.

A charge of directing sexual verbal communication was found not guilty by Sheriff Joanna McDonald.

The sheriff put Milligan on the sex offenders register as well as supervision for 18 months on top of the unpaid work.

The court previously heard from the victim, who had picked up her grandchildren from school on the day of the incident.

On the way home, she came across Milligan, who she knew through her husband.

Milligan, also of Bishopbriggs, offered the woman an umbrella and pushed her pram home.

The woman told the court that Milligan made a comment about her breasts, which made her feel “disgusted”.

She stated that Milligan came across as “sarcastic, arrogant and a sleazebag”.

The woman said that they did not speak further until she arrived home, when Milligan entered the property and put his arm around the woman’s shoulder.

He groped her and repeatedly tried to kiss her.

Prosecutor Danielle Docherty asked the woman how she felt, and she replied: “Numb, frozen, I didn’t know what to think, I was thinking what is happening here?”

Ms Docherty asked: “How did the kiss make you feel?”

The woman replied: “Disgusted – I am a happily married woman of 40 years and I don’t want to be kissed by anyone.”

She added that Milligan tried to kiss her on the lips three times, which made her feel “physically sick”.

The woman said she was “hysterical” after Milligan left and went to her neighbour’s house with her grandchild.
