A man has been taken to hospital after being “stabbed” in a “targeted attack” outside a high street dentist in North Lanarkshire.
Emergency services were called to Bankhouse Dental Care, on East High Street in Airdrie, after receiving reports of an assault outside the premises at around 8.40am on Wednesday.
A 34-year-old man was taken to Monklands Hospital. He has since been treated and discharged.
The incident is being treated as a “targeted attack” and enquiries remain ongoing, police said.
Bankhouse Dental Care confirmed the practice was closed following the incident and that those inside at the time were receiving support.
A spokesperson said: “Bankhouse Dental Care at Airdrie in North Lanarkshire can confirm that a person has been treated and discharged from hospital following a stabbing incident outside the East High Street practice early this morning.
“Those working or attending the practice who witnessed the attack are receiving support. The practice has taken the decision to close for the rest of the day .
“No further details are available while police enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are investigating a serious assault incident which took place in the car park of a premises on East High Street, Airdrie, at around 8.40am on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
“A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. Officers are treating this as a targeted attack and enquiries remain ongoing.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 8.47am to attend an incident on East High Street, Airdrie. Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene and one patient was transported to Monklands Hospital, Airdrie.”
