A man has been taken to hospital following a murder bid in a North Lanarkshire park on Wednesday.

Emergency services were alerted to a man being attacked on the football pitches at Pather Park near Wishaw’s Caledonian Road shortly after 4pm.

A 47-year-old man has been taken to hospital for treatment following the incident.

Detectives are treating the attack as attempted murder. No arrests have been made, but STV News understands that a positive line of enquiry is being followed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.05pm on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, police received a report that a man had been assaulted on football pitches to the rear of Caledonian Road in Wishaw.

“Emergency services attended, and a 47-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Officers are treating the incident as attempted murder, and enquiries are ongoing.”
