A man has been left with serious injuries after he was attacked by two people on board a train.

The incident took place on a service travelling between Coatbridge Sunnyside and Glasgow Queen Street at around 8pm on Tuesday.

Two men, who were part of a group, assaulted another passenger then left the train at Carntyne Station.

Paramedics arrived and the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

An investigation is now under way and the British Transport Police is appealing for witnesses to come forward.
