A man is to stand trial charged with the murder of a father in Inverclyde.
Lewis Mullen, 24, is accused of attacking Jack Trainner in the common close of flats in Brookfield Road in Port Glasgow last April 27.
It is claimed the 27-year-old was repeatedly struck on the head and body with a knife or similar item.
Mullen also faces a charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
This includes a claim he put on a balaclava to mask his face and fled from the scene.
Prosecutors allege this was done in “an attempt to avoid identification” for the crime.
Mullen is also accused of being threatening and abusive towards Mr Trainner.
He is said to have spoken to him in an “aggressive manner”, followed the dad, bumped against him and repeatedly shouted and swore.
Mullen is also charged with class C drug possession and having a knife without lawful authority.
The case called for a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.
Mullen’s legal team – led by KC Thomas Ross – pleaded not guilty on his behalf.
Lord Mulholland fixed a trial due to start in January 2026.
