A man who died in hospital after being found injured on a North Lanarkshire street has been named by police.

Jamie Lucas was pronounced dead at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after suffering injuries on Stirling Street in Airdrie.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 2.45am on Sunday and the 33-year-old died a short while later.

Police have since arrested a 21-year-old in connection with the death and investigations into the incident continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Campbell said: “Our thoughts remain with Jamie’s family and friends at this very difficult time. Officers will continue to support them as our investigation continues.

“I am aware that this incident will be of concern to the local community in Airdrie and I would like to reassure the public that additional patrols are in the area as part of this ongoing investigation and there is no threat to the wider community. I would ask anyone with concerns to speak to officers.

“I urge anyone with information that may assist our inquiry to contact us. If you have any personal footage or you were driving in the Stirling Street area and have dashcam footage, please come forward. Any information can be passed to us through 101.”
