A hairdresser who raped a young woman which left her suffering nightmares has been jailed for more than four years.

Mason Ferry carried out two attacks on the victim at a house in Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute.

The 22-year-old also sexually assaulted another woman at a Travelodge hotel in Stirling.

Ferry was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday having earlier been convicted of the crimes.

The offences occurred between 2018 and 2021.

Judge Douglas Brown locked him up for a total of four years and three months.

Ferry, of Garelochhead, also Argyll and Bute, will remain on the sex offenders list for an indefinite period.

Jurors heard the rape victim describe how she was left feeling “used and worthless” having been attacked.

The young woman preyed upon at the hotel was said to have been “frightened” and had demanded Ferry stop.

She was also left in tears by her ordeal.

Edith Forrest KC, defending, said a pre-sentencing report focused on Ferry’s “continued denials to the charges”.

The advocate stated Ferry was a qualified hairdresser although had latterly been working in a distillery on the Isle of Mull.

Ms Forrest said: “I can say that he was able to articulate empathy and insight to those who have been subject to sexual offences.

“He has that level of awareness, but, of course, there is the continued denials.”

Judge Brown also imposed non-harassment orders banning Ferry from contacting the two woman and a third who he breached bail by phoning.

Sentencing, he told Ferry: “Both of the sexual crime victims submitted impact statements describing how your behaviour continues to affect many aspects of their lives.

“You caused (the first) to sink into depression and that she still has flashbacks and vivid nightmares.

“The second has continued to have difficulty maintaining relationships because of how you treated her.”
