A man who slit the throat of a “good citizen” in Glasgow has died in prison.
Kirk McIntyre attacked Ricky McGettigan on August 6, 2017, in his Auchinairn flat after he wrongly believed the 51-year-old took a bag from the house of someone he knew.
The incident occurred after the victim discovered a handbag beside the Forth and Clyde canal in Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, and handed it to the police in July 2017.
McIntyre used a bladed weapon on the 51-year-old and left him for dead.
Mr McGettigan’s body was discovered three days later. The killer was jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 20 years after he was convicted.
At the time Lord Mulholland told McIntyre: “He was a man who had done you no harm.
“You sought him out believing he was responsible.
“He was not responsible and had merely handed in the bag as any good citizen would do.
“What you did was barbaric and cruel.
“You slit his neck and left him to his fate.”
McIntyre died at HMP Shotts on April 25, aged 56.
A Fatal Accident Inquiry into his death will be carried out.
