A manhunt is under way and police have locked down multiple streets after an attempted murder in Paisley.

Emergency services were called to reports a man being seriously injured on George Street at around 8pm on Monday.

The 53-year-old was taken to hospital where his condition is described as serious but stable.

A number of roads were closed, including George Street at Barr Place, Lady Lane at Argyle Street and Castle Street at Argyle Street, with diversions in place.

Police said enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and officers remain in the area.

Detective Sergeant Daniel Small said: “It’s vital we trace the person responsible for this violent attack and I’m appealing for information from the public.

“Were you in the area at the time and saw what happened? Do you have CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage which has captured something of significance? If you have any information which could help, please get in touch.

“We have an increased presence in the area with officers carrying out CCTV and door to door enquiries. Anyone with concerns can speak to these officers.”
