A man, who travelled from Merseyside to attend two anti-immigration protests in Glasgow, has been charged with shouting racist abuse and inciting racial hatred.

Ryan Ferguson, from Bootle, travelled 200 miles to attend demonstrations in the Cranhill and Castlemilk areas of the city.

At the gathering on Lamlash Crescent last week, the 26-year-old is alleged to have posted a video on social media containing racist remarks with the intention of stirring up racial hatred.

The following day, during the protest on Tormusk Road, Ferguson is alleged to have acted in a racially aggravated manner by shouting racist abuse at an unnamed individual.

Police later revealed that an innocent man was being targeted in Castlemilk due to misinformation online.

Ferguson pled not guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to both charges.

A further hearing has been fixed for next month.
