A woman was taken to hospital after a minibus hit debris from a tanker that overturned completely blocking a carriageway in Ayrshire.
The HGV lost wheels and toppled onto its side while travelling on the A71 Hurlford Road on Thursday afternoon near the Moorfield Roundabout in Kilmarnock shortly before 3.35pm.
The minibus travelling behind the tanker hit debris left on the road.
Emergency services were called and a 71-year-old passenger was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.
The A71 westbound remains closed on Friday morning. The eastbound carriageway reopened at around 7pm.
Police Scotland said an investigation into the incident was ongoing and urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.35pm on Thursday, March 2, 2023 a tanker overturned on the A71 at the Moorfield Roundabout near Kilmarnock.
“A minibus travelling behind the tanker struck debris on the road and a 71-year-old female passenger was taken by ambulance to hospital as a precaution.
“The eastbound carriageway was reopened around 7pm. The westbound carriageway remains closed and enquiries are ongoing.”
