More than a dozen workers at Scotland’s largest whisky producer have been struck down with coronavirus.
Drinks giant Diageo confirmed 13 contractors at their packaging plant in Shieldhall, Glasgow, tested positive for Covid-19 over the past week.
As a precaution, a number of other employees have been ordered to self-isolate.
The firm said all safety protocols have been followed and additional control measures have been put in place to prevent onsite transmission.
A Diageo spokesperson said: “The health and wellbeing of our people, suppliers and the community is our number one priority.
“We have stringent protocols and procedures in place to ensure our workplaces are as safe as possible.
“We can confirm that 12 employees from one of our logistics contractors and one other contractor at our Shieldhall packaging plant have tested positive for Covid-19 over the past week.
“All safety protocols and procedures have been followed, including a deep clean sanitation of the relevant area and detailed contact tracing.
“A number of other individuals have been asked to self-isolate as a precaution and additional control measures have been put in place to prevent onsite transmission.
“We continue to monitor the situation very carefully and we are in touch with the relevant authorities.”
