'Mountain of rubbish' left piled on top of city bin after Christmas

A “mountain of rubbish” has piled up on top of a Glasgow bin following Christmas celebrations.

Kerry Gill was grocery shopping at St Rollox Tesco, on Boxing Day, when he was “staggered” to see a large build-up of recycling left on several city council bins.

The site was clear on Christmas Eve, so it is believed to have built up on Boxing Day following festive celebrations throughout the city.

Glasgow City Council confirmed that staff have since removed the rubbish and urged the public to dispose of their waste considerately to avoid it happening again.

Mr Gill said: “I went to pick up a few groceries at the supermarket and was staggered to see this mountain of rubbish.

“It must have taken several days to mount up.

“I cannot believe people are unable to take their rubbish to a council dump and are content to turn their city into a rat-infested slum.”

A council spokeswoman said: “Our cleansing team was at St Rollox on Friday, Christmas Eve, and cleared the site.

“This rubbish has been placed there over the festive weekend. Cleansing staff cleared the site again yesterday (December 27).

“If bins at the site are full, we would urge people to behave responsibly and dispose of their rubbish considerately.

“Please take it home to dispose of in a responsible way. Our cleansing team have been out again today to ensure the area is clean.”
